Okay, I suppose 30 isn’t really old but it’s seriously so hard for me to believe that the man I started dating when he was eighteen is now thirty. So much has changed over the last 12 years but I am so darn lucky to have him in my life. I love that I now get to call him my husband and I look forward to spending the rest of our birthdays together. Oh, and you may remember that my birthday was just a couple weeks ago. We were born two years and two weeks apart from one another, isn’t that sweet?! 🙂
Anyway, this weekend was one filled with fun, family, friends and food. Unfortunately we did a lot of traveling so I didn’t get to do any of the cooking myself but I have a feeling I will make up for it this week with Christmas cooking and baking.
Friday was the official birthday so we started the morning with breakfast at home. Birthday boy is a picky eater so breakfast consisted of the basics; hashbrowns, sausage links, eggs and waffles. I spruced it up a bit and topped the waffles with whipped cream and sprinkles to make things a bit more festive.
I took off the entire weekend from work so I could spend it with the birthday boy, so we took advantage of our day off and finished (well, started too) our Christmas shopping. We had a casual dinner, just the two of us, followed by a few drinks at a fun cocktail lounge where my friend works.
The next morning we hopped in the car and drove two hours to the hubby’s grandma’s house for an early Christmas celebration. I should mention that I really failed in the picture taking department this weekend. 😦 We had a nice lunch followed by a gift exchange. Grandma Elsie is 95 years old, still lives on her own, and needs virtually nothing so we always struggle with what to buy for her. She has a little cart that she cruises to get her mail every day so we got her a scarf and mittens to wear on her daily mail runs and she seemed really pleased with them!
A couple of hours later we were on our way back home, getting ready for birthday dinner with friends at a yummy Italian restaurant we always forget about. We all had great meals so hopefully we’ll remember to go back soon! I am SO bummed I didn’t get a pic of the whole group at dinner. The group we went out with consisted of five couples, all of whom were married in the last year. Well, one couple celebrated their one year anniversary last month, but close! It was the first time we’ve all been together not at one of our weddings in quite some time. We had a great time, and went out for cocktails afterward for more fun. Three of the couples attended an ugly sweater party the night before and were a bit tired from the previous night’s festivities so they headed home early but we stayed out with the other couple. We played shuffleboard. We drank. We talked. We drank. We laughed. We did shots. Ugh. The rest is history…
Both the husband and I were feeling under the weather this morning due to last night’s fun but we had to meet up with his mom to pick out our Christmas gifts. (We pick them out, she buys them, wraps them and puts them under the tree at Christmas and we act surprised 😉 )We also grabbed lunch at Noodles & Co. Nothing like a big bowl of mac & cheese to cure a hangover! I saved some for later, mostly because I just LOVE Noodles’ to-go boxes. I’m such a nerd.
Of course I can never resist that face, so I shared my leftovers with my litte furry man. Who desperately needs a haircut, might I add.
This evening has been super chill, just the way I like it. I made my list of things I need to do in order to be prepared for the holiday weekend. I realized I do have a couple more gifts to buy, need to get my grocery shopping done,do my Christmas baking and need to get the house tidied up for my bestie who’ll gets into town from Phoenix on Thursday. Add work to that list, along with the dozens of other things that will undoubtedly pop up throughout the week and I will definitely be needing a Christmas day nap! Not that there’s ever time for that on our Christmas day, but a girl can dream, right?!
While I didn’t eat as poorly as I could have this weekend (there was SO much temptation) I also consumed way too many beer & booze calories and indulged in pasta twice so tomorrow I really need to get back on track so I don’t feel so guilty for my upcoming Christmas weekend indulgences. I stocked up on chicken breasts, veggies and fruit at the grocery store and intend to eat as cleanly as possible over the next four days so that I can sort of cleanse before a weekend of indulgence.
I’ve got my “skinny water” chilling in the fridge for tomorrow. Have you heard of this? I was seeing it all over Pinterest and decided to give it a shot. It’s a mixture of water, fresh lemon juice, sugar-free cranberry juice (though I was only able to find no sugar added) and dandelion root tea. It’s really not too bad. Obviously I don’t expect to really lose and keep off 5 pounds, but I drank this for a few days a couple of weeks ago and really liked how it made me think about how much water I’m drinking and it did make me feel a bit more “cleansed”.
Off to bed early tonight so I can wake up early and get started on my to-do list!
