Weekends like the one I just had make Mondays SO much worse. Granted, I don’t work conventional hours so weekends don’t always mean time off for me, but this one did and it was awesome.
Friday was a mostly lazy day around here but I did get my white chocolate cupcakes frosted & all ready to take into work that night. It was my buddy Adam’s last night at work so these were his parting gift. He requested white chocolate macadamia nut but finding macadamia nuts that weren’t coated in chocolate proved harder than I’d imagined so I made white chocolate cupcakes with white chocolate truffle filling & white chocolate cream cheese frosting. I’ll follow up with the recipe in a separate post.
White Chocolate Truffle Cakes all ready to go!
I got home from work around 4am Friday night/Saturday morning so I really would have liked to sleep all day. That was simply not in the cards so I was up and at ’em around 10 & ran a few errands. I stopped for Jimmy John’s on my way home.
Remind me again why I’d never tried the #6 on whole grain before?!
I actually only managed to eat half because I filled up on jalapeno chips & a couple spears of that ginormous pickle.
I packed an overnight bag & then hopped in the car and headed towards Wisconsin Dells. My mom & I had a bachelorette party to attend that night so we decided to make a fun girl’s night of it & got a hotel room for the night. We did some shopping at Tanger Outlets & stopped at Marley’s for refreshments after shopping. It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside & enjoyed our drinks.
Orange shoes from Gap Outlet!
Mojito for me, bloody Mary for mom.
We headed back to the hotel to freshen up, then met up with my friend Melissa at the lobby bar for a drink, followed by dinner at The Del Bar. The Del Bar is a Wisconsin Dells icon. It’s been around for years & is consistently awesome. This was my first Del Bar experience but my mom & Melissa have visited multiple times. The vibe of the restaurant it totally supper club but the building was designed by Wisconsin native, Frank Lloyd Wright, & showcases some of his famous architectural details. The service, the meals & the company were all absolutely fantastic.
Spinach Salad with warm bacon dressing to start.
Oven-Grilled Shrimp for Mom.
Pork Chops for Melissa.
Seared Ahi Tuna for me.
My rice wasn’t spectacular & in hindsight wish that I’d opted for more asparagus but the tuna was ahhh-mazing!
We split a slice of peanut butter cream pie & it was just as delicious as it looks!
A fabulous night out with some of my favorite ladies!
Bachelorette festivities followed & we were in bed by 12:30.
Such a fun night!
Mom & I were up and out of our hotel early & I headed back home to my boys. I don’t know what it is about Sunday, but it’s the day that hubby & I always have the most fun together. We get caught up on what we missed in each other’s lives over the week, eat yummy food, and have a generally great time. This Sunday was no exception. We went to one of our fave breakfast spots, Hubbard Avenue Diner, for a late breakfast & great conversation.
True diner style at Hubbard Ave.
We both had the Southwestern omelette, which includes spicy chorizo, black beans (none of these for the hubby though), green chiles, & cheddar cheese, topped with house made salsa & tortilla strips. We were so chatty that I didn’t even snap a photo!
Hubbard Avenue Diner is famous for their pie, so I did remember to get a piece of banana cream to go.
So much pie this weekend!
We spent the rest of the day doing things around the house & taking the dogs (we had my parents dog for the day) for a few walks. Hubby fertilized the lawn on Saturday so it wasn’t quite safe for the dogs to walk on.
Hubby was really craving Sloppy Joe’s so I left him in charge of dinner. Well, partially. I did mash up some of the red potatoes we had on hand & turned them into garlic mashed. Hubby kept on saying things like, “These are so good.” and “They taste just like garlic mashed potatoes from a restaurant.” Uh, yeah. That was the goal. We couldn’t resist the loaf of yummy-looking whole grain bread we saw at the grocery store so we ate our sloppy Joe’s a bit untraditionally on pieces of bread, rather than on a fluffy white bun. But since there were no vegetables (I don’t think potatoes really count) involved in this meal, I like to think that the whole grain bread “healthed things up” a bit.
We finished up our fabulous Sunday by cuddling on the couch, watching Young Adult, which I found incredibly sad. I thought both Carlize Theron & Patton Oswalt gave great performances & couldn’t wait to chug a Diet Coke after watching. Hubby didn’t hate it but wanted to see more of her life after the final scene.
All in all, I don’t have a single complaint about my weekend, except for the fact that it’s over. I’m working the closing shift tonight so I’m laying low around the house today, getting some housework done. Tonight is my only real late night shift so I’m looking forward to a week of planned workouts & meals since my schedule allows for it for a change.
How was your weekend? Do you have a day that you try to set aside to connect with your spouse/loved one each week?
It’s not that we don’t talk the rest of the week, it’s just that our lives our so busy with work & other stuff that it seems the only day we really get to sit down, breathe & enjoy each other’s company, is Sunday. Our day. 🙂
Did you see Young Adult? What did you think? Do you know anyone like Charlize Theron’s character?
While I can’t pick one exact person, I do feel like there are many people very much like her character. 😦
Have a great week!
