Monday Ramblings

I had a great weekend. A fantastic weekend, in fact. I didn’t take many photos because I was too busy soaking up all of the goodness so the only way I could think to recap it all was to ramble a bit. Here goes.

First things first, I missed Thirsty Thursday. Not just posted a day late like usual, but totally missed. I had a drink all ready to go but I spent too much time cleaning & reading all week that I never really got around to making it, photographing it & posting it. I considered making it over the weekend & calling it Still Thirsty Saturday but I guess I’ll just have to save it for later.

The reading I mentioned? Bloom. Read it. Seriously. You won’t regret it. Also, read Kelle Hampton’s blog. I’m sure I’ll mention more about this book & Kelle in the future.

Another thing that distracted me from posting a Thirsty Thursday drink?

Agora Pavilion Farmers Market

Friday night the hubby & I had a date night. We were “that couple” & went to Abuelo’s because we had a gift card. Hey, you have to use it at some point, right? Abuelo’s has been around for a few years but we’ve never really been blown away by the service or the food so we don’t go often at all. This was by far our best experience to date.

Saturday morning involved a bit more cleaning & then I headed to the airport to pick up my friend Janene. She was my outside rep for the last 6 months at my old job. She worked in the market office in Walnut Creek, CA & I worked here in Madison. Sometimes it’s hard to believe we’ve only known each other for a little over a year & that we’ve only met in person a handful of times. We really hit it off upon our first meeting as work partners & it feels like I’ve known her all of my life. Talking to her every day was the best part of my job. She is also the thing I miss most about that job. As luck would have it, she’s in Madison for training all of this week. She flew in a couple of days early so we could catch up.

We centered most of our activities around eating & drinking. It was all good but the highlight of the meals of the weekend, for me, was last night at Bunky’s Cafe. Bunky’s is in the Atwood Neighborhood & specializes in Italian & Mediterranean cuisine. We started with hummus that was the creamiest hummus I’ve ever tasted. I had Okra Delight for my meal & it. was. spectacular. If I’m being honest, I wasn’t even sure if I liked okra but once I saw it on the menu, I had to have it. Our server was super awesome & I asked her thoughts on the dish before ordering. She said it’s really good, if you like okra. In server speak, that means she really doesn’t like it. But apparently I do! It was seriously fantastic & I cannot wait to recreate it at home. We also split a 4-layer slice of carrot cake & peanut butter cheesecake. Everything at Bunky’s is made in-house & it shows. Can’t wait to visit again!

We saw “Rock of Ages” last night. Not we as in my husband and I; we as in me & a couple girlfriends. My husband literally would have walked out. I love musicals & 80s music so obviously I liked it but it wasn’t spectacular. (I didn’t have high expectations.) I have to admit, it had been awhile since I last saw a legit musical in the theater so I got the giggles the first few times they broke into song.

Bonus? Diego Boneta, who plays Drew, was totally adorbs.

Those eyes. That smile. …sigh… He was born in 1990. After every song that he sang in that movie was recorded.

Today I had to take Janene to the hotel where she’ll be in training all week. We agreed that we weren’t ready to say goodbye yet so we’re hoping to meet up again sometime this week before she heads back home.

Fielder got a haircut today. He needed it big time.

He also recently got new food. He loves it. We aren’t completely out of the old just yet so I mixed the two together today. Momma didn’t raise no dummy puppy…

I fell in love with Boca Burgers all over again tonight when I had one for dinner.

It’s hot here today. And it’s only supposed to get worse. I put off walking/jogging with Fielder until 9:30 tonight when it was still 87 degrees outside. It was pretty sticky so I got the bright idea to cut our trip short & get some fro-yo. Orange Leaf just opened in town & I’ve been dying to try it. As I was pulling into the parking lot, so were approximately 10 cars full of teenage girls, who all got inside before I did. I took this as my sign that I didn’t need fro-yo at 10pm.

I came home & dished myself up a little bowl of Cookies & Cream ice cream instead. Not winning.

I think I’m done with my ramble now.

How was your weekend?
I’m really sad that this weekend is over & truly hope I get to see Janene again before she leaves. Having her in town but not being able to spend time with her is almost worse than when she’s back home in NorCal!

Did you try any new restaurants?
I’m so stoked that I finally tried Bunky’s. Trying out new restaurants just never gets old for me.

Did you eat any fro-yo? I’m no fro-yo connoisseur & tend to prefer ice cream but lately I really have the fro-yo bug. We have other frozen yogurt shops in town but Orange Leaf is the most conveniently located for me so I hope to try again soon!

Oops, I guess I wasn’t totally done rambling…
