Goodbye Summer, Hello Pumpkin

I know that summer doesn’t officially end until the 22nd, but I think it’s pretty safe to say that most people consider Labor Day Weekend to be the unofficial end of summer.

Now I’m not one to push summer away, no siree Bob.

But I am, however, one to bake with pumpkin as soon as I see one leaf fall off of a tree.

Well, that’s a lie. Due to our drought conditions this summer, leaves have been falling off of the trees for months now. But the leaves are falling for real now (kinda) and I took that as a cue to bake up some pumpkin-laced goodies.

Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR different pumpkin concoctions were created in my kitchen this weekend over the past 4 days.

I did allow time for some other festivities though. Friday night I worked outside in the heat, then came home & crashed. I was up early Saturday morning to start my baking.

Saturday night we attended a wedding reception for some co-workers of mine. It was so great catching up with old co-workers that I didn’t even take one photo, but we definitely had a great time. Congrats to Renee & Steve!!

I slept in Sunday morning, took a quiz for school, and then got all of my cupcakes frosted. Sunday afternoon I headed to a bridal shower, followed by a bachelorette party. The bachelorette party was unique in that we didn’t do the usual bar hopping, despite the sweet limo we had for transportation.

The bride is a photographer (she was one of our wedding photographers) so the plan was to cruise around town to different locations for photo shoots. We all brought props, costumes, etc. and while the plans were grand, the execution was a bit off. We had a good time nontheless, but I felt bad that the bride didn’t get to have as much fun as she’d hoped with photographing all of us in fun locales.

The bachelorette party festivities went on to include spaghetti dinner at midnight & camping out overnight. I had to work the next morning so I ditched out early & could not have been happier to snuggle up with my boys when I got home. I think this sister might be too old for that bachelorette party stuff these days.

I labored all day on Monday, but then the hubs & I went out to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner.

I had the day off today & did some more baking. Shocking, I know.

I had to drink beer for “research”.

I would be a horrible wife if I didn’t mention what my husband was up to all weekend.

We have a little problem in this house. We don’t have a laundry room, rather a laundry “closet”. This means there is no space for folding clothes & if you’re in a hurry, there is a spare bedroom right across the hallway that makes for super convenient “out of sight, out of mind” laundry storage.

This room (technically our office) normally looks like a tornado went through it. The clothes baskets usually look like they are vomiting clothing. You generally cannot see an inch of carpet, let alone move the chair far enough out to actually sit at my clutter-covered desk. Don’t be upset that I don’t have a before picture. Really. It was scary.

My closet, while not as bad as the office, wasn’t exactly clean either. Now I have no idea where any of my clothes are, but damn this closet looks good!

Of course he hung things that I normally fold, and folded things that I normally hang. But this is me, standing in the middle of the clear floor of my closet, not giving a darn if I can find my favorite bedtime tee or not.

I guess that pretty much sums up my Labor Day Weekend. Expect pumpkin recipes galore in the not-too-distant future (I’m going to try to wait until the “official” start of fall).

How was your long weekend?

Did you make anything with pumpkin? Try a pumpkin latte? I kinda hate myself for embracing fall’s favorite flavor so soon but I loved every recipe I made! I’m holding out on the pumpkin latte though, and challenging myself to make my own pumpkin spice syrup for at-home lattes.
