My Favorite Kind of Weekend

My favorite kind of weekend is THIS kind of weekend.

Friday night at home with my boys.

A sweaty 45 minute workout on Friday night. Who am I?! Yes, I own TurboJam and yes, I love it.

A solid 9 hours of sleep Friday night.

Up early Saturday & off to the last Farmer’s Market of the year.

I pointed out every market sign that advertised brussel sprouts, rather than Brussels sprouts. My friends were not impressed. I just can’t help myself.

The weather could not have been more beautiful.
I love my little city.

After seeing the Market sights on the Capitol Square, we headed to State Street for a little shopping.

We stumbled upon Kilwins.

I’m not sure how I had previously not heard of this place.

It’s a chain, which is a bit of a bummer in a city that does local so well, but it absolutely did not take away from it’s delectableness P.S. I am aware that delectableness is probably not a word.

I had a deliciously sinful caramel covered Oreo. Serious yum.

I headed home & did a couple of hours of homework.

I also found this guy & really REALLY wish we lived closer to Arkansas so we could go pick him up & make him ours forever. Fielder needs a brother.

Later in the afternoon we headed West to hang with my parents for the night.

We had dinner with my parents & friends at a new restaurant in town.
Freddy Valentine’s is housed in a historic bank building in my hometown.

They kept numerous elements of the original bank, which meant we got to eat dinner in the vault!

An acquaintance at the bar sent our group a champagne toast. I love small towns.

I meant to ask our server for a photo of the group, but only got this one of mommy & me.

This was my second visit to Freddy Valentine’s & I love it because it brings something totally new to my little hometown. Something that nothing else in town is offering, which is really refreshing.

We followed up dinner with drinks at our favorite place in town.

This morning we had breakfast with my parents before heading home.

I was rainy, dreary & pretty dreadful outside. But you know what? That didn’t bother me a bit. I curled up on the couch with my boys & we all took a little nap.

For dinner I made Kristen’s Sneaky Meatballs. They’re sneaky because they’re “healthy” & contain zucchini. Their utter deliciousness, however, isn’t sneaky at all.

Hubby had them meatball sub style.

And I opted for the lower carb Spaghetti Squash and Meatball version.

I also whipped up a batch of monster cookies, as requested by a few of Justins co-workers we ran into last night.

It’s been a wonderfully lazy day around here. It’s back to the grind tomorrow, but I’m thankful for such a great weekend.

I’m also grateful, today & every day, for all of the Veterans who have fought for our freedom over the years. One Veteran in particular, holds a special place in my heart. It’s hard to believe she’s been gone for almost a year & yet not a day goes by that I don’t think of her.

It wasn’t until her passing & looking through old photos that anyone realized how much I resembled her.
Can you tell which of these three beautiful Marines is my grandmother?

I hope you had a glorious weekend!

  1. Kilwin’s is pretty new — it wasn’t yet opened by the time I moved from Madtown in early August.

Have you shared your monster cookie recipe? I would love to make dry mix of it and hand it out for holiday gifts this winter!
