How Do You Measure a Year?

*one thing you should know about me is that I will always take advantage of an opportunity to sing/share/relate to a RENT song.

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee.

So very many cups of coffee.

In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.

Eight miles might as well be a million when that’s the distance that separates you and your newborn babies for the first three weeks of their precious lives.

In diapers, report cards, in smoked wheels, in speeding tickets.

We could buy a small island with the money we’ve spent on diapers this year.

In  contracts, dollars, in funerals, in births.

The first birthday seems like an ideal time for them to sign a contract agreeing to love me forever and ever, more than anyone else, right?!

Or. How about love?

Yes. Measure your life in love.

Year after year.

  1. oh my gosh trish, I am tearing up over here. and that’s a tough thing to do to even pregnant me. I cannot believe they are ONE. I remember years ago (how is that possible?) talking about how you hoped for kids one day, and then seeing your TWINS announcement, and now watching them grow up is so amazing, even if we’ve never met for real. I swear to you that when I can get to Madison next, you are the first person I’m planning a coffee date with. until then, all the hugs to you and your sweet family!

    1. Aww! I feel the same about your growing family! Watching Miss A’s intelligence and sassiness and utter adorableness over these past (almost!) two years has just been so much fun. It’s crazy to think about how long we’ve been friends and how much we’ve shared without ever actually meeting. I’m so glad we are connected, love having you as a friend! *muah*
